In later seasons this is gonna be very important. There's gonna be some kind of time travel epsd. where Morty and or Jessica go back in time and somehow interact with her grandma..or maybe Jessica is her OWN grandma .
This is very much like the 80s Cowboy-time-travel movie called Timerider
The only inter-stellar BEACON that will work is whats called a Von Nuemann probe(s). This is because such a BEACON would need to last millions of years , maybe hundreds of millions.
Von Nuemanns probes are machines that can reproduce them selves . We could (someday) build these machines and set them out in our meteor belt where they would 'mine' iron and nickel and copper and what ever; then build copies of themselves , these copies would do the same thing all over again. This would create whats called a Von-Nuemann Swarm
If we like , we could send these machines to our closest star 'Alpha Centuri' with the first priority of ;building a radio transmitter that sends a signal 100 lights years across. and a receiver also. By 'build' we mean this "smart machine " would land on a asteroid or meteoroid , a moon, or even a planet then "mine" raw material and use it to build anything we want it to,including a copy of itself .
Second; the machines would study all the details of the solar system it was exploring... and send the info to the center of the Swarm , (most likely Earth)
Third priority would be to copy its self , and send the new machines to the next star . This process would continue forever ... literally forever . If these machines have a life time of about 1000 years and could reproduce themselves 100 times in that amount of time , then the process would continue forever and he swarm would literally span the ENTIRE milky way Galaxy.
Many believe we shouldn't start such a project just yet, they believe we should wait until we have some kind of technology like 'fusion power' , so the we can reach at LEAST %10 the speed of light , and the only fuel we would need is hydrogen , We could create a Nuemann swarm with out this kind of 'fusion propulsion , but Im not sure we should ... unless we have to.

Again the first job of these bots(our bots) would be to send and receive messages to anyone that might be out there. Very LOUD messages , meant to be heard by everyone.The only BEACON worth making is one that last forever,... and this is the only kind . The reasons for this are detailed below.
The fermi paradox is serious scientific problem , there should be aliens out there , very advanced aliens with interstellar civilizations out there...and we should be able to 'see' some of them , based on the 'numbers only' we should have detected them by now. .... but we have NOT
There are actually a 100+ explanations for this paradox but few of them are "satisfying" -perhaps NONE of them are satisfying
WE believe one of two explanations are the best , either We (humans) are among the very First to become scientifically advanced, ("advanced" tech means [at least] the invention of Radio ; radio is a ''benchmark" )
OR species with advanced technology are INCREDIBLY rare, ( or both of these things could be true)
By rare , we mean that advanced tech only pops up once every 10 million years in any given galaxy like the milky way, and they almost always go extinct before the next advanced species appears . T is the "rare intelligence/technology " solution to the Fermi-paradox and we think its the most likely
This scenario makes it impossible for advanced species to speak to each other, unless you record your message and leave it out there for 11'umpty-million years . The way to do that is to copy it over and over on newly-made machines. hence....Von Nuemann probes/swarms . Our message would have ALL the info about the solar-systems we had explored and a good bit about our own Earth cultures and science and ...everything , even if it could hardly 'translate' for these alien creatures we would include Math and poetry and music ...whatever.
We could actually run into some probes made by other species who were engaged in the same thing. Our bots could swap info with theirs and the broadcast it back to us on Earth. These aliens could be currently alive; or it could be a message/bot that was made 13.7 million years ago and they are long extinct ; or it might be that humans have been extinct for millions of year and these aliens are a brand new species (as humans are right now)
ONE plausible scenario is .....
We create and launch a fully reproducing von-Nuemann prob to Alpha-Centari in the year 2088 at 33% the speed of light ,it arrives in the year 2100 and starts doing its thing. It works flawlessly , coping itself 4 times and lunching one copy to Barnards star in the year 2120 ...and so on ...and so on...
In the year 2368 , one of our machines comes across a alien machine in the star system TOI-763. Its 311 lights away . The two machines exchange info and it turns out the other machine is in a 'von Nuemann swarm' of its own, just like ours . The alien swarm has been working for 37,000 years and has spread across many hundreds of thousands of star systems, where our swarm is is only 268 years old .
The machines "creators' are from a star system 17,000 light years from Earth ( this means they are not any kind of threat to us , unless they have some kind of "warp-drive" from sci-fi movies [which we dont believe in]
Further we learn that the aliens have not transmitted any messages to their machines in more then 4,000 years ; meaning they suffered some kind of catastrophe, or they got board with the probes and forgot about them, or they have gone extinct all together.
We also learn the the civilization WAS actively communicating with the probes for a FULL 33,000 years . This means their civilization and technology is AT LEAST that old , where our own is only about 470 years old. (assuming our "real" technology started in the year 1900) This makes them INCREDIBLY advanced compared to us . Their machines share some cool tech with us, including some 'solar panel' type power generators that work with background radiation instead of star light (very handy). They also inform us we are not the first intelligence they have encounter, we are the forth . The first two were Nuemann-swarms just like us, and the third was a planet with a long destroyed civilization visible on the planet... and a few defunct satellites in orbit. They are sure this species destroyed itself in a war. Very little was learn of this species, only that they had existed; and went extinct about 2400 years before they were discovered
The other two Nuemann swarms were 17,500 and 820,000 years old respectively. The first being younger had spread itself over 190,776 star-systems and reported they hadn't heard from their creators in 2,600 years . The other swarm was FAR older then any of the others but hadn't heard from their creators in 818,000 years . Their creators had only kept in contact for the first 2,000 years then stopped transmitting for whatever reason.
This swarm had strict orders to "stop exploring" if they didn't hear from their "home planet " directly . So the swarm stopped launching to new stars , as per its orders. It would ONLY copy itself and remain in the systems it had already developed in , a total of 19,820 all together . This order was given as a safe guard , to make sure the swarm didnt get ''out of control" with out any "biological species" to supervise it.
This made a total of four swarms all communicating with each other , and a fifth archaeological site that amounts to five separate species , only one of which was still alive (or active at least) , the Humans.
None of the swarms were equipped with what you would call genuine AI , either the aliens didn't have such technology or they didn't want to give it to 'free range' machines set loose on the milky-way; same goes for Humans.
All of the swarms FREELY exchanged all of their knowledge and even the location of their 'home stars'--because the idea of 'space war fare" is preposterous ,and conquering someone else's planets is pointless and down right SILLY.
Our swarm took in all this information, and sent it directly back to Earth , only it took 311 years to get there.
In the year 2679 , Humans learn they are NOT alone in the universe. ...about 600 years after they started looking. Even then; Humans dont have an alien species they can talk to, they can only talk to the machines they left behind.The four swarms together have explored 31,000 sqr lights years in area with a total number of 1,382,231 star systems , one of which is the Earth/Terran system .The total number of planets explored is 7,200,237 , out of this 7.2 million only about 2300 have been found to have life. Our own swarm has never found any.
They have found Life , 1,309 planets had microscopic algae-slime mold type life , another 722 had what could be call 'Cambrian' type life forms in there oceans; another 288 had land plants and lizard/insect type land life .
Only 13 planets had land animals that seemed to work in packs to hunt and evade predators, like our own mammals do . Not a single alien species seemed to have built structures bigger then a beaver dam; or to have ever used fire for anything. These 13 were labeled 'advanced animal life' and said to be like our own lions, wolves,chimps,dolphins and whales > remember this is only 13 planets out of 7.2 million.
The life they have found is very very much like our own life here on Earth. complete with DNA, cell walls and membranes... it seems LIFE is a universally common thing...only very rare

In March, the helpline saw a 338% increase in call volume compared with February, according to spokesperson with the agency. And compared to last year for the month of March, they had an 891% increase of calls.

Between 1 and 2 a.m. alone, Draper said, the national network fielded 660 calls. The volume was two to three times what it had been, and that was on a night when calls were already on a dramatic upswing, increasing as polls closed and returns came in, the lifeline's director said.
It's a trend that's played out with other services too, and the direct link to the election was "pretty undeniable," said Draper, who's spent about 25 years working in the suicide prevention and crisis intervention field. "I can't say I've seen anything like this. ... And it's certainly not something I've ever seen in an election."
